The January meeting of the Arklatex Section of the ASME will feature a tour of Louisiana Tech Technology Transfer Center in Shreveport.  Dr. Paul Hale, Associate Dean for External Programs, will discuss the new academic environment in the College of Engineering and Science, the role of the Technology Transfer Center/Shreveport in serving the needs of northwest Louisiana, and the new Masters of Science Program in Engineering Management.

On January 1, 1999, Dr. Paul Hale became the Associate Dean for External Programs in the College of Engineering and Science, and the Director of the Technology Transfer Center in Shreveport. Dr. Hale's academic training is in Industrial Engineering and he is a registered professional engineer in Louisiana. He has held faculty and administrative positions in industrial engineering and biomedical engineering at Louisiana Tech.  As an industrial engineer, he has worked with the industry in the Shreveport-Bossier area and as the Director of the Biomedical Engineering Center, he has served as research liaison between the university and both the LSU Medical Center - Shreveport and the Biomedical Research Institute in Shreveport.

Dr. Hale has experience working with universities in the region and has served on several state economic development committees. He has received a number of awards including being named the Outstanding Biomedical Engineering Educator in 1993 and is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.  He received an Engineering Faculty Professionalism Award in 1994 from the Louisiana Engineering Foundation.  Dr. Hale has held leadership positions in various professional societies and is active in engineering program accreditation activities.

One and one-half  (1½) P.D.H’s will be given for attending this meeting.

Directions to Technology Transfer Center:  From I-10 (West of the airport), exit the Inner Loop Expressway, Hwy 3132; head South.  From 3132, take the first exit, 70th Street; head West.  At the first stop light, Buncombe Road, turn left.  About one block, across from the First Assembly of God Church, turn left on Shreve Park Drive.   Follow Shreve Park Drive a little over a mile to Louisiana Tech Technology Transfer Center.

NATIONAL ENGINEER'S WEEK -  FEBRUARY 18-24, 2001 - TURNING IDEAS INTO REALITY!

National Engineers Week is turning 50! : Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, National Engineers Week is celebrated annually by thousands of engineers, engineering students, teachers, and leaders in government and business. In 1990, the National Engineers Week consortium expanded its scope and now includes more than 100 engineering, scientific, and education societies, and major corporations dedicated to increasing public awareness and appreciation of technology and the engineering profession. Co-chairs for 2001are the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and IBM.   For a roundup of the Engineers Week activities, such as “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day”, go to the web page www.eweek.org.
Shreveport Banquet: The Louisiana Engineering Society, Shreveport Chapter, is sponsoring the Annual Engineers Week Banquet on Friday, February 23 at the Shreveport Country Club.  Social hour begins at 6:00 P.M. with the banquet starting at 7:00 P.M.  Cost is $25.00 each.  Ron Anderson, Director of The Lighthouse, will be the keynote speaker.  Among many other services, The Lighthouse provides mentoring programs and parenting and leadership training for individuals and families throughout the Greater Shreveport area.  Ron is a dynamic motivational speaker who was named by The Shreveport Times as One of the 10 Most Outstanding Leaders of Our Community in 2000.  Ron will speak to us about the qualities of leadership and give a powerful program on ways to succeed in the service sector of the economy.   Mat Wallace, President of LES, says that he has heard Ron speak on a number of occasions and have always come away energized and uplifted.   For 2001 Engineers Week Banquet tickets send check for $25.00 each, made payable to “LES-Shreveport Chapter” and mail to LES-Shreveport Chapter; Jim Belt, P.E.; P.O. MathCounts:  The MathCounts competition is scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2001 at the Louisiana Tech Technology Center in Shreveport.  Fifteen teams of sixth, seventh, and eight grade students will be competing. 

LOUISIANA EIT AND PE EXAMINATIONS

Examinations in land surveying and in the chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, and mechanical engineering disciplines are offered in the spring and fall of each year. Examinations in all other engineering disciplines are offered only in the fall of each year. The professional examinations are offered on Fridays, and the fundamentals examinations are offered on Saturdays. Upcoming examination weekends include: 

             October 27-28, 2000                                     April 20-21, 2001 
             October 26-27, 2001                                     April 19-20, 2002 
             October 25-26, 2002                                     April 11-12, 2003
