Greetings Canaveral Section Members,
June marks the end of our fiscal year which means it is time
for officer elections. I have been proud to serve as the Canaveral
Section Chair over the past three years, but will not be in the
running this year. Growing work responsibilities requiring a good
amount of travel will not allow me to effectively coordinate events
and section activities. I will remain an active member and
participate as often as possible, but not at the level that I have in the
past.
The Canaveral Section has always been a strong section
containing 300+ members working at various companies along the
Space Coast. Have you ever wanted to tour a local company to see
what kinds of projects or products they develop? Do you want
professional development courses? Do you have a topic of interest
that you would like to learn more about? All of these activities can
be planned and presented to the section as a whole and there is no
better way to make this happen then to be a committee member
making the call on what events come to life in your section. I
encourage you to think about your career goals and where ASME
can help with those goals. There are numerous committee
positions and each one plays an important role in making the local
section function to best serve the engineering community.
A list of the current committee members is listed on the
following page. I encourage you to look at the list of opportunities
and see if there is a position that you are interested in volunteering
to fill. Contact me if you are interested in becoming a committee
member. I have to submit the list of officers by June 30th. I look
forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards,
J.D. VanGilder
