Monthly Events __________________________________________________________________ Dates can be found in the calendar with fly-outs below
Tour & Picnic @ The Transportation Museum
We are working out the details for a guided tour our gear heads will enjoy, and for food arrangements. They are a stop for the Nov 1
train excursion to Charlottsville, Va. NC Transportation Museum
The tour of B/E Aerospace was great Oct 23rd. Forty-three people were able to see the insides of the exclusive seating used in aircraft interiors. It is not just tourist class seats, there has been modern custom seating created by B/E. Our members hosted the visit with helpful details.
Planning to prepare for tours and events Our planning meeting was successful with initial plans. There is more we can do to fill in our schedule. Continue to help with the planning. Regional options are being investigated. Contact board members and join the discussion. RSVP, to
help us plan! |

Make yourself known at the meetings
Local services can help the Carolina section deliver good programs. Contact John or Gavin to offer your support and be recognized among decision makers.
Past meetings have been great!
Brian Lashley was the proud winner of the GPS device that was our year end 2005 attendance prize.
ABCO Automation Plant Tour held January 2005 in Browns Summit allowed Mr. Kemerer to show ASME and friends this expanded facility and ABCO capabilities. ABCO supplies major manufacturers with factory automation equipment through design and build, and also provides contract services.
The Douglas Battery tour in December 2004 was very comprehensive and informative. Thank you Douglas Battery.
Our November meeting was a great hit with everyone including the students. Our guest, Col. Richard Graham, told us about the SR-71 Blackbird--An Engineering Marvel.
We learned about hoist safety and the need for scheduled inspections by Carolina Hoist.
The Childress Winery tour was very informative. It helped us understand the new industry in our area.
Waste Water Treatment may still seem mysterious, but is was fun to see it happen in June.
The UNILIN tour was very informative March 9, 2006. Unilin is one of the world's market leaders in the production of laminate flooring. The Subway food was topped by a door prize from Lanier Hardware of Davidson.
The January 12, 2006 Roehrig Engineering
production facilities visit was well attended and informative. They
provide Shock absorber Dyno's
used by almost every NASCAR and F1
race team.

Lexington style
Backcountry BBQ was sponsored by SolidPE.
Our Entrepreneurship Panel, November 2005, included several successful start
up business owners moderated by Mr. Charles Tuttle (Ziel business
consulting). Mr. Kenneth Johnson (Effectur tax settlement
services), Mr. Patric Kammer (C Change Surgical equipment), and Mr.
Kevin Rackers (Automation Techniques process equipment) gave us
excellent overview of the business owner's journey. Hard lessons
made strong impressions. Thank you gentlemen.
Rewards
for involvement
There
are many training opportunities (including PE credits),
recognitions, and grants available through ASME.
These include Diversity Action, education support, and a
Federal Government Fellowship to serve a year in
DC! Remember that this society works because we
want for it to help our fellow engineers. Nothing
happens until you do your part.

All Field Office have been closed!
___________________________________________________
ASME Staff people have been dismissed July05
All five field offices have closed. This included our Eastern Regional Office in
Virginia which supported Regions 3 and 4. Members are sad to loose the contact
and guidance of the staff employees. We truly want to thank Cecelia Noblett and
Shannon Nelson who formed good bonds with the membership. They have been our
link to the other regions, and headquarters. Their presence helped us develop
useful people connections and knowledge across ASME.
A sincere response for the respect and personal connection we had with these two
people has been planned. Mr. Bob Ellson of Rochester, NY (Region 3) has arranged
for a tribute event. A reception and dinner is planned for September 24,
2005 (Saturday afternoon) in the Philadelphia area. Details are to be finalized.
Financing the Carolina Section-
Changes in the ASME national support will mean a major change to funding
of our activities. Section appropriations will be reduced 25% for FY
2006; then eliminated for FY 2007. A combination of local fund
generation and individual contributions
will be our sources. Sections will create activities to develop their
own financial resources through projects like short course delivery, and
sponsorships to mitigate costs. Your active involvement will make it
possible for your ASME to be relevant and sustainable in the future.
We can have fun, learn, and help our businesses through our involvement.
E-mail
Based Meeting Notice
Your ASME section is transitioning to e-mail
based meeting notice format. To ensure that you receive future
meeting notices please make sure that ASME has your current
e-mail address. You may do this by calling 300-843-2763 or by

Location....Location......Location......
The golden rule of
Real-estate may also apply to ASME meeting venues. We are aware
of the wide area covered by our Carolina section. If
the location of our meetings and events is a problem for you,
perhaps you can suggest a place? Better yet, can you and
your organization host a meeting that would be of interest to
your peers?
The ASME meetings are a great way to network
with other engineers. We learn from seminars, and from each
other. The short social is a great way to get to know what other
industry is doing in our area, and who knows, perhaps build
business relationships. It is surprising how little we know what
businesses do that reside close to each other. If you had not
attended a recent meeting of your Carolina section, please
consider one soon. We would love to have you come. Adam Sadlowski
