    Abstract

    The ASME standard is today's guideline for developing specifications, designs and construction within the biotech, pharmaceutical and (API) active pharmaceutical industries. The new 2007 version has a total of 9 sections dealing with all conceivable needed technologies for today's critical process applications and construction issues. We will cover each of the sub-committee responsibilities, current issues they are working on and go through each section.

    The seminar covers the critical issues in today's design, manufacturing and construction phases of biopharmaceutical facilities including:

    * General requirements
    * Materials
    * Welding
    * Finish requirements
    * Design
    * Seals
    * Instrumentation
    * Metallic Materials of Construction
    * Certification

    After the presentation, there will be time for questions and we will bring any relevant comments back to the applicable BPE committee for review. The next ASME BPE meeting is in San Juan, Puerto Rico, January 19 - 23, 2009.

    Speakers:
    Frank J. Manning, VNE Corporation, Director of Sales, Biopharmaceutical Products, USA
    Frank (Chip) Manning has over 30 years serving the biopharmaceutical, semiconductor, food and beverage industries in the process piping distribution and manufacturing sectors. Frank is a founder and charter member of ASME BPE. He is currently Chairman of the ASME BPE Dimensions & Tolerance sub-committee and member of the Surface Finish sub-committee. Frank also belongs to the BPE Steering group and the MAC committee. In October 2007, Frank was awarded the ASME Dedicated Service Award and was selected from over 3000 members of the society. Frank is an active member in ISPE and has been a technical speaker at several chapter meetings.

    Randy Cotter Jr, Cotter Brothers Corp., President & Co-Owner
    Randy started working in the industry as a teen for his father's company Cotter Corporation. During that time he became a licensed pipe fitter as well as an ASME certified welder and a member of ISPE / AWS and other organizations. The Cotter Corp was acquired by ITT industries in 2001 and in 2003 Randy and his Brother Tim started Cotter Brothers Corporation. Randy has taken the company from a startup to its present day position in the world market. As an ASME Code Shop with CE/PED certifications and maintaining the standards of BPE the Cotter Brothers continue to dominate the custom process skid fabrication market.

    Ted Zarubaiko, Cotter Brothers Corp., Project Manager
    Ted graduated from the UNH in 2001 with a BSME. He has been involved with the Biotech & Pharmaceutical industry since 2001 when initially employed by Pure-Flo Cotter as a Project Engineer. In 2004 he joined Cotter Brothers Corporation (CBC) where he is currently employed as a Project Manager. Ted brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, which helps both clients and vendors alike.

Note: If you arrive before 6pm for the meeting, you should park at the meters further up College Rd, to avoid any possible parking tickets. At 6pm, the F-Lot directly across from Morse Hall is then available for visitors and others.

In addition to this website we now have an on-line forum for NNE members within the ASME PeerLink on-line space. Click here to link to this new environment.
The forum space is available to start discussions between meetings or to respond to events at the most recent section meeting. Please take a moment to try the polls included there and vote for your section meeting preferences. We want your opinions! Watch this space for a more inclusive on-line membership survey.
