Insulation, The Forgotten Technology for Energy Conservation & Emission Reduction
Presented by Ron King, National Insulation Association

TOPIC: You may think you have heard this story before, but now you can get the "rest of the story." Insulation is the "Rodney Dangerfield" of the construction industry and especially among energy conservation and emission reduction initiatives. It is truly a proven and time tested but undervalued and under appreciated technology. Did you know that insulation is applied but rarely engineered? Did you know that it is estimated that between 10% & 30% of all installed mechanical insulation is damaged or missing? "Why Insulate" is a simple but yet complex topic with multiple components. Insulation can reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions; increase your available carbon credits, be an important part of sustainable design initiatives, be part of your safety program, increase manufacturing productivity; eliminate or at minimum reduce corrosion under insulation, control condensation and mold growth and provide an unrivaled return on your investment so why is it a "Forgotten Technology"? This presentation provides evidence as to the "Power of Insulation" in the new construction, renovation and maintenance arenas when designed, installed and maintained properly, including a live demonstration of the most comprehensive evolving web-based resource, and its free, developed for mechanical insulation in decades. The demonstration will include a review of an on-line instantaneous energy and emission calculators and a host of other beneficial engineering online calculators. Usually what sounds too good to be true, isn't. That is not true in this case. You need to get the "rest of the story."

BIO: His 40 year tenure in the industry has provided him insight and practical knowledge in the fragmented insulation and construction industry. He recently retired as the Chairman, President and CEO of one of the nation's largest diverse insulation and specialty distributors. He is a past President of the National Insulation Association (NIA), the Southwest Insulation Contractors Association and the World Insulation and Acoustic Organization. He has been honored with "President's Award" or three different occasions from two associations. He currently is a consultant to NIA or a variety of Capitol Hill and outreach and educational initiatives.

National Insulation Association (NIA) is a fifty year old trade organization whose members specialize in contracting, distribution - fabrication and manufacturing of mechanical insulation for industrial, mechanical and building applications, refractory applications, environmental remediation and other related services.
