Message from the Chair Dear Members, Spring is here and the unseasonably warm weather continues. That means it should be a little easier to attend the few remaining Programs the 2011-12 ASME Pittsburgh Section calendar. The schedule on page 1 of the newsletter lists the remaining Programs; however, if you’re aware of something going on that you think the rest of the members should hear about, let us know! We’re happy to spread the news. The Emsworth Locks and Dam tour was another success. Thanks go out to our hosts, Denise Polizzano, Mark Jones, and Ian Vega, of the US Army Corps of Engineers, who were extremely patient and very knowledgeable. Their enthusiasm about their jobs and love of nature and the waterways was inspiring. They stated that they would be happy to entertain our Section for another tour next year, so I’ve already marked it on next year’s calendar. Look for it again in the Spring of 2013. The next event is the Spring 2012 Student/Professional Mixer that will be held on the CMU campus. The more Professionals we can get to attend this event, the more successful it will be. So I ask that you consider attending, especially with the weather cooperating so far. See the newsletter for more details about time and location. After the Mixer comes the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge and Kennywood tour. We’ll provide further details in the newsletter, at our website (http://sections.asme.org/pgh/), and via our social networks (Facebook and LinkedIn) as more details become available. Stay tuned! As always, if you wish to become involved with the ASME Pittsburgh Section, please contact me at rskalnas@earthlink.net or any member of the Executive Committee through the ASME Pittsburgh website, Facebook, or LinkedIn. We look forward to hearing from you! Regards, Ron Kalnas ASME Pittsburgh Chair 2011 – 2012 rskalnas@earthlink.net
