Chairman's Message:

Welcome to the new website for the Centennial Section of ASME. My thanks to Dave Dummer for his work in creating the new look of the website. Our goal is to have this be a website that you the members can use as a professional resource. To that end, if you have suggestions or comments on the type of information that would be beneficial to you, please let me know and we will consider including it on the website. Thanks again Dave!

So far in the 2011-2012 year we have had several well-received presentations. In October, we visited the Electric Propulsion and Plasma Engineering Laboratory at the Colorado State University Engineering Research Center. In November the topic was damage to the Fukushima nuclear reactor as a result of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. In December we were given an exclusive tour of the Rawhide Power Plant. February’s meeting was on the technical aspects of R/C aircraft. We are in the planning stages of several more interesting and relevant topics before our year ends in May. Details will be posted on this website as they become available. We hope you can participate.

We will continue to pursue activities with ME students at the University of Wyoming and at Colorado State University. Should you wish to suggest program topics or host a program, please contact me at: joeronniemo@gmail.com

Each year, we issue a request for proposals to our local student sections – at CSU and at the University of Wyoming. These RFP’s ask the students to submit proposals for funding of projects of their choice. Most often we receive proposals for funding to help with travel to the District E SPDC (Student Professional Development Conference), but other projects are eligible. The funding for these proposals ranges around $1000 each.

We are always seeking additional people to work with our leadership group to keep the Section running. If you are interested in working with our leadership, please let me know. We look forward to a continuation of a very active ASME year in the Centennial Section.

Lastly, I’d like to thank Fred Smith for all his help in keeping the Centennial Section operating smoothly. Fred has generously given of his time and advice to help me learn the ropes. He has worked behind the scenes laying the ground work for many of our tours and presentations. Thanks Fred!
