Join ASME Centennial's Linked In Group

Chairman's Message:

Welcome to the ASME Centennial Section Web Site

We had a very active year in the 2007-08 year including a tour of a local Antique Washing Machine museum and a presentation from Don Willson about his role in "encouraging" Volvo to undertake a recall of throttle bodies that had an important design flaw. At the November meeting Dr. Wade O. Troxell was recognized as a new ASME Fellow in recognition of his excellent contributions to the engineering profession and to ASME. And, for November, we had a tour at Advanced Manufacturing Technology Corp in Loveland, Colorado. AMT makes handling equipment for the manufacture of the ubiquitous plastic bottles with which we have become so familiar in the past twenty years. In January we visited CBW Automation where we saw their automation equipment for plastic molding. In February we held our annual Industry and Student Banquet at CSU and presented a panel discussion about the working world of mechanical engineering and held discussions with individual students. In March we visited Ambient Air Technology and saw their atmospheric wind tunnels and learned about their applications to bicycle riding and atmospheric dispersion of pollutants. In April we visited Advanced Energy and saw their manufacturing processes for power and flow equipment used in the thin-film and solar cell fabrication industries.

We have an active Operating Board and we will be starting our new year of programs in September 2008. We are considering a number of tours and will undertake some new activities with ME students at the U of Wyoming and at CSU this next year.

Should you wish to suggest program topics or host a program, please contact me at: fred@engr.colostate.edu.

We are always seeking additional people to work with our leadership group to keep the Section operating smoothly so if you are interested in working with our leadership, please let me know.

We look forward to another very active ASME year in the Centennial Section.

Thanks
Fred
