The Senior Metallurgical Engineer will be responsible for providing technical direction and contributions to a broad range of metallurgical activities including material selection, high temperature material behavior, effects of service environments, failure analysis, remaining life estimates, and manufacturing processes including welding. This position will focus on metallurgical R&D activities and will be expected to provide technical insight and leadership on topics ranging from creep strength enhanc ed ferritic steels through advanced stainless steels to nickel based alloys for future plant concepts. In addition to an excellent understanding of metallurgy candidates must also be able to execute metallurgical investigations and material test programs. A working knowledge of the materials requirements of ASTM and ASME standards, particularly the boiler and pressure vessel code would be advantageous. Some experience with modeling of material behavior, characteristics and performance (e.g. microstructural evolution, creep, oxidation, corrosion) would be beneficial. The Senior Metallurgical Engineer will be expected to define and supervise projects to completion, develop technical reports and presentations, interact with R&D teams and engineering groups within Alstom as well as industry teams and external customers. Assigned tasks will be executed with limited supervision and some travel (domestic and international) will be required. NOTE: The successful candidate will likel y hold a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent, post-docs and individuals with only a year or two of experience will definitely be considered. Welding Engineers or Materials Engineers with a relevant background will also be considered. Demonstrated expertise in directing materials research activities is required. Materials Technologist-Supplier Development We are looking for a Materials Technologist-Supplier Development to be part of this exciting start-up project. Position Description • Support and advise suppliers during the manufacture of client's products regarding applied manufacturing processes. • Access the technical capabilities and competencies of newly identified suppliers in support of the sourcing-led supplier qualification. • Provide detailed technical advice to product owners during the qualification of the manufacture of products by suppliers. • Lead the review of material specifications relevant to the US and Mexico. • Identify and evaluate opportunities to use substitute materials and modify the existing specification to encompass locally available materials. • Support the North American region, Mexico, and the US. • Become familiar with other client products and components and expand the role worldwide in the longer term (> 18 months), supporting an existing Materials Engineer who provides a similar service globally.] • Act as the single point of contact for Mexico and US on all matters relating to metallurgical support in the engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing areas. • Seek advice from the R&D community, ensuring that issues are captured and shared. • Perform other duties as assigned. I. Design Engineer (Mechanical or Thermal) Description: (1) Help develop processes and procedures for effective management of the technical aspects of design and manufacturing of heat transfer equipment. (2) Perform Thermal design, mechanical design, and technical management of heat exchanger product lines, including but not limited to MSR, Feedwater Heaters, and Steam Surface Condensers. (3) Deliver technical direction for Quality and Manufacturing requirements and contribute to the evaluation and qualification of suppliers and products. (4) Interface with internal and external Customers across the globe regarding technical matters throughout the course of a job. (5) Coordinate project design between offices in the U.S. and Paris, France. (6) Provide technical support during manufacturing and commissioning. (7) Provide technical support to Sales department in terms of preliminary equipment design and presenting client's equipment design to Customers where required. (8) Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor (four year) degree in mechanical or chemical engineering. Knowledge of U.S. Codes and standards and correspondence with European standards (Including ASME VIII Div.1, HEI, TEMA). Experience in technical data management and CAD systems.
