American Society of Mechanical Engineers
 WEBSITE UPDATE, APRIL 02, 2010

The Central Virginia Section is a member of the former Blue Ridge Region IV , now reorgaized as the Southeast District, and is headquartered in the Virginia State Capitol of Richmond. The local section includes the Counties of Amelia, Brunswick, Caroline, Charles City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddle, Essex, Fluvanna, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, King George, King and Queen, King William, Lancaster, Louisa, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Middlesex, New Kent, Northumberland, Nottoway, Powhatan, Prince George, Richmond, Nelson, Albermarle, Independent City of Charlottesville, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Westmoreland, and the independent Cities of Colonial Heights, Fredericksburg, Hopewell and Petersburg in the State of Virginia.

The Central Virginia Section stemmed from organizational meetings during 1955-1956 when members in the Richmond area were granted recognition by the parent Virginia Section. Organized as the Richmond Area Subsection, this spirited group of members showed such rapid growth that they again petitioned the Council for recognition as a full fledged section and were approved as the Central Virginia Section in 1959.

Through participation in ASME section activities, mechanical engineering professionals can serve the community and develop skills and knowledge.
