Presenter & Bio:

Mr. Anthony Nerone – Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical and Fluid Systems Division, NASA Glenn Research Center

Tony Nerone grew up in the backyard of NASA Glenn in North Olmsted. His first involvement with NASA GRC was as a NASA Explorer during his senior year in high school. From there, he attended Cleveland State University studying mechanical engineering, during which time he was hired as a Cooperative Education student at NASA following his sophomore year.

After graduation Mr. Nerone was hired into the Turbomachinery Branch of the Engineering Development Division. Since then he has been a design and lead engineer on various aeronautics and space projects including Next Generation Launch Technology, Satellite Fuel Pump Technology, and flying as test lead on the microgravity aircraft for a Microgravity Research Experiment. During that time he completed a Master of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, and the NASA FIRST Leadership Development Program.

Today he is working as a member of the Mechanical and Rotating Systems Branch within the Mechanical and Fluids System Division.  Primary duties are on the Thrust Vector Control System of the Ares I Upper Stage launch vehicle, which is slated to replace the Space Shuttle for low earth orbit missions and future excursions to the moon. He is also involved with the Cleveland Section of ASME over the past 7 years having been a board member, officer, and previous chair.

Presentation Summary:

ASME proudly presents the History of NASA Glenn Research Center, an in-depth look at the origins of the NASA Center from the start under NACA. We will start from the beginning with the competition between Cleveland and other locations for the installation, the local history of aeronautics, the links and contributions of the community, all the way up to current and future work at Glenn.
