Newsletter DELMARVA SUBSECTION February 18, 2000
Dear Members: Executive Committee has met on Feb. 8, 2000 to discuss chartering ceremony, engineers week activities, student chapter activities, and elections. Minutes of the meeting is on our web page at http://www.asme.org/sections/delmarva. Purpose of this communication is to give you some good news, invite you to Chartering ceremony at UMES, announce an elections/seminar/dinner meeting, and request nominations from you for open positions. 1. Good News Upon being nominated by DELMARVA Group, our treasurer Ray Jackson, has been appointed to complete Dr. Sahay's term as Vice President of ASME for Mid Atlantic Region III. Congratulations to Ray. We are sure that he will do an excellent job. It is now official that we were upgraded to subsection. Executive Committee would like to thank all of you for your support. Subsection will be receiving $450.00 in addition to what we receive from Delaware Section (~$750.00). This year however, we have only received $225.00 instead of $450.00 since approval came late. ASME V.P. Ray Jackson will deliver the Charter to our Subsection at UMES. 2. Chartering of UMES Student Section The Chartering ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 24, 2000 at Oasis dining room at 11:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. at UMES. Dr. Robert Johnson (executive V.P. of UMES), Dr. Boyd (Dean, School of Business and Technology), Ray Jackson (New V.P. for ASME Eastern Region), Chairs of Technology and Engineering/Aviation Science departments as well as students and members of DELMARVA Subsection executive council shall be attending the ceremony. DELMARVA Subsection members are strongly urged to attend the ceremony to increase visibility of ASME and our Subsection. Media shall be invited to cover the occasion. A special invitation was sent to Dr. Spikes (UMES president) to invite her to the activity. Unfortunately she will not be able to attend the meeting due to her tight schedule. During the ceremony, Ray Jackson will also present Subsection Charter to Bill Hargrove (Chair for DELMARVA Group). Lunch shall be provided. Please let me know if you are planning to attend ASAP. 3. Elections Executive Committee, tentatively, has set April 19 as elections night. We are planning to invite a speaker. We shall be meeting at Bonanza in Delmar, DE at 6:30 P.M.
