We start another year
of the ENCS of ASME with some changes in the executive committee.
All of the positions have changed and are reflected on the first page
of the newsletter. I would like to thank all of these people for
joining me in trying to put together another great year of ASME.
We also still have a lot of room for additional people to volunteer
their time and help out the section. We would like to get new
people to take over the roles of newsletter editor, webmaster, contacts
for meetings or tours, contacts with industry, and contacts with
universities.
At our first planning meeting we set our goals to include getting 10%
more members at meetings, get one new person on the executive
committee, increase the quality of the food at our meetings, and use a
service to do registration and accept on-line payment. Some of
these changes and the reduction of our allotment will require us to
charge a fair cost for the meetings.
Come help plan the rest of the year for your section. Our next
planning meeting is 6:30 PM on September 16th at the NCSU University
Club Room 1887. Directions are I-440 to Hillsborough St. - head
West toward the Fairgrounds - first driveway on right. The
meeting is free for everyone who RSVP's by Sept 15th on Eventbrite at:

ASME membership dues are due by October 1. To remain a member in
good standing, you must renew by this date. One thing you may
notice when you renew is that there is a space to donate to the local
section. ASME has been cutting the funding of the local sections
over the past few years. With those cuts we have had to do things
such as eliminate newsletter mailings (at $800+ per mailing), scale
back on paid speakers, and reduce program subsidies. We have
heard from a number of people that they miss things such as
newsletters, speakers, etc. To bring some or all of these things
back, the section has to get very creative to develop new sources of
revenue. Last year we got $779 from these donations, and I would
like to thank everyone who gave. If you can, please check that
box and help support the local section this year.
