Fox Valley Section
History
The Fox Valley Section of ASME was organized in 1960 as a subsection of the Chicago
Section to accommodate the growing number of ASME members in Chicago's western and
southwestern suburbs. Membership continued to grow and in 1975 it was upgraded to full
section status. The Fox Valley Section covers DuPage, Kendall and Grundy counties plus
parts of Kane, Cook and Will counties.
A number of important technical resources are contained in the section boundaries
including Argonne National Laboratory, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the Illinois
High Tech Corridor, the College of DuPage and the Illinois Institute of Technology Rice
Campus.
The section has succeeded in having three sites designated as ASME History and Heritage
Landmarks; The Old Graue Mill in Hinsdale, the CB&Q Roundhouse and Backshop in
Aurora and the Fermilab Tevatron Cryogenic Cooling System. The section is active in
community affairs sponsoring a scholarship for junior and senior mechanical engineering
students from the Fox Valley Section geographical area and an annual Engineers' Week
expo geared toward school-age children.
