MEETING MINUTES

 

Attendees: Ed Chang, Kevin Dang, Derick Kam, Ron Flegal, Chester Kaitoku, Kory Ikeda, Derek Sato

 

Reading Previous Meeting Minutes – Derek Sato

o       2009 Fall P.E. Refresher Class Information

o       Presentation on Nanotechnology by Dr. Mehrdad N. Ghasemi Nejhad

 

Treasurer’s Report – Kevin Dang

o       Current Account approximately $ balance

 

REPORTS:

HCES

o       Planning is in process for Engineers Week Banquet. Current consideration is On Deck of the USS Missouri. This venue requires a fixed fee regardless of head count and the required use of one of five pre-approved caterers

o       Account Balance in excess of $. As a non-profit organization the balance must be re-evaluated and may require a lower target balance in the future.

 

Montgomery Competition:

o       Montgomery Fund was established utilizing the ASME Tax ID. Currently reviewing the requirements to separate to a custodial account. Targeting account change to be completed in 2009. All account signature authorized ASME officers must be present when executing this change.

 

Student Section

o       No Update Provided – No Student Section Member in Attendance

o       Kory Ikeda to check for Student Section Chairperson Info

 

ASME Web-site status update

o       Web-site was removed from service due to malware. Section area is now separated from main site and has been re-activated allowing ftp access. Ed can now update HI Section web-site.

 

Career Fair – Kailua High School, November 4, 2009

o       Volunteers – Ed Chang, Jim Grogan, Derek Sato

o       Report to Gym – 0830 Setup; Students begin to arrive at 0915.

o       Ed Chang to bring display board, handouts, and pencils.

 

ASME Annual Reports submitted

o       Confirmed by Derick Kam and Kevin Dang

 

MATHCOUNTS – February 6, 2010 & March 13, 2010

o       Will require volunteers for Scorers and Proctors.

o       State Competition @ Iolani

o       Chapter Competition @ Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Suggestions for Tours and Speakers

o       HECO CIP, Chevron, HELCO Keahole Plant. Puna Geothermal only hold tours on weekdays.

 

Start thinking about 2010-2011 officers

o       December: Nominations

o       Kory Ikeda – Secretary; Derek Sato – Chairman

o       Executive Committee Vote for Amendment to Bylaws expanding Director positions from one each Director 1-year & Director 2-year, to two each. All present were in favor. Change to be included in January Ballots.

o       January: Ballots mailed

 

NEW BUSINESS:

ASME 2009 Christmas Party

o       Last Year: Maple Garden – struggled to achieve 20 person head count.

o       Suggestions: Buffet 100 - $12.95 lunch per person.

o       Cancel and Supplement Engineering Banquet?

o       Decision: Cancel 2009 event.

 

PROGRAM:

Presentation on HECO Fuels Infrastructure

o       Presented by Derek Sato

o       Discussed AST Maintenance, Pipeline Maintenance, Governing Rules (API for Tanks, Title 49 CFR 195 for Pipelines)

o       Displayed Fuel Receipt and Delivery methods and sources.

o       Displayed examples of maintenance for tanks and pipelines.

o       Explained fuel transfer controls.
