Exam
taken in April 2007.
Reason
why I was able to pass the PE exam was taking the Mechanical Refresher course
given by Ray Liu. The big factors the
helped me was:
A. Allowed
me to schedule and organize for the exam
1.
You had to prepare for Saturday reviews, therefore would
need to review chapters and do some of the homework.
2.
Course schedule broken into a logical sequence so you get
thru all the chapters in the PE review manual
3.
Overall, calculated that I spent total time 240 hours. This includes classroom time and hours
studying. 2 weeks before exam, I took
off from work to review.
B. Work problems.
1.
Do the problems in the review manual as well as Practice
Problems from other references.
2.
Ray would remind us, don’t forget your units.
3.
Remember key constants:
2.31 ft water = 1 psi, one gallon of water is 8.33 pounds. I couldn’t do it so I made a quick reference
sheet.
C. Taking Mock Exams
1.
It gives you a good idea of 40 questions in 4 hours or 6
minutes per question.
2.
Time management during the exam.
3.
Don’t get discourage when taking mock exams - I
had 15 out of 40 on the first try.
D. Working with other engineers
1.
More than one way to solve the problems
2.
And you can relate on how difficult some problems are.
Again thanks to Dr. Steve Masutani, Dr Charly
Kinoshita and big thanks to Ray for taking his weekends off to teach the PE
refresher!!!
