You are receiving this message if your primary or secondary interest in ASME lies within the Power Division. My wish is that you have work and find yourselves in good health. =20 The outlook for Power is bright. I am optimistic about the contribution the engineering profession continues to make toward providing solutions to challenging and complex energy issues, building the nation's infrastructure, coping with a changing regulatory environment, and also recognizing that globally we are closer than ever with the advancement in communication technologies. It helps to reiterate the core mission of the Power Division to the membership. I have to reference it myself, in our bylaws, as a reminder of our focus on activities within ASME. The Power Division is charged with promoting the art and science of electric power generation and use, in accordance with the following statement of scope: "The Power Division is primarily concerned with the field of thermal, hydro and renewable power generation and usage. Through professional publications, meetings and discussions, this Division provides a forum =66or the benefit of those engineers who have an interest in the development, design, selection, operation, maintenance, research, utilization and education related to power producing equipment and =66acilities." It is no surprise that we are an engineering driven organization. Within the Power Division I have found it to be rich with expertise, where individually and through common interest, the participants are willing to give their time and energy to share their experience and knowledge on many different subjects. We also have within our organization, some very different and well informed opinions on issues of our day related to the field of energy . . . . just ask. I urge you to become involved. WE are at a NEXUS of sorts with very challenging issues facing us not just now, but also for the future.=20 Competing for limited resources is energy, water and population. Pick any order. Water is needed to sustain population (food) and energy (heat sink). Population needs both water and energy. The ASME Power Division provides a forum that addresses the technical issues. We are comprised of 13,000 members with a five member executive board built upon a foundation of the different technical committees within the Power Division. It was for myself and perhaps for you that you may =66ind is very rewarding throughout your career. It is also an investment in a little of your time that can become part of an enjoyable continuing education experience, while building a better future. The ASME Power Conference is where we meet. The next meeting is July 20th through 23rd in Albuquerque, NM.
