The purpose of the Early Career Mechanical Engineer of the Year award is to recognize a member of ASME Holston Section who has made outstanding contributions to the mechanical engineering profession and the community during the early years of his or her career.

Applicants were judged on ASME Participation, Professional Attainments/Experience, Educational Progress, Community Service, Honors and Awards, and involvement in Technical/Professional Societies.

The 2009 recipient of the ASME Early Career Mechanical Engineer of the Year Award is Jason Goodman.

Jason earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech in 2004.  After graduation, he spent a year working in process development at W.L. Gore and Associates in Elkton, Maryland, before relocating to Kingsport to work at Eastman Chemical Company.  He currently works in a process engineering role, specializing in rotating equipment.

Jason has been a member of ASME for 10 years, holding a number of leadership positions at the section level.  Currently, Jason is the Vice Chairman for the Holston Section.

Away from work, Jason enjoys spending time with his wife, Nicole, and new daughter, Ella.  An avid runner, Jason supports running in the community by serving on the board of the State of Franklin Track Club.  Jason also enjoys hiking and backpacking in the mountains of northeast Tennessee and western North Carolina.

Congratulations, Jason!
