2001 Partners in Mechanical Engineering Program

The Board on Minorities and Women is now accepting proposals for its 2001 Partners in Mechanical Engineering program. Grants are now being offered on a first-come, first-serve basis to ASME sections for projects that stimulate partnering and involve collaboration with a local section or chapter of an organization that supports the participation of women and underrepresented groups in engineering.  

Grants range from $500 to $1,500 per ASME Section. Proposals should be submitted by June 30, 2001 (end of the ASME fiscal year) and will be evaluated as they are submitted.

MINORITY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
 INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE

The Board on Minorities and Women is currently soliciting applicants for internships in the Minority Leadership Program. The program works to increase the participation of women and underrepresented minorities on ASME boards and committees through mentoring and leadership development.

Each year, the program matches five ASME members with mentors and an operating board or committee and funds to travel to meetings of the group for one year. The deadline for applications is July 15, 2001.

PRE-COLLEGE ACTION GRANTS AVAILABLE

As of April 1, Pre-College Action Grants are now available to Sections and Student Sections. Funding for innovative projects and activities that directly support the efforts of Pre-College classroom teachers in Science, Math, Technology education.

The scope of activities funded range from engineer-led workshops for teachers that connect the Science, Math, Technology curriculum with the field of engineering, to a local Engineering Day at a neighborhood school. Grants are limited to a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $1,500.
