Submarine Group Two Engineering Department Master Chief

Master Chief Clabaugh joined the Navy in July of 1984. Following Basic Training in Great Lakes, Illinois he entered the Navy Nuclear Power Training Pipeline in Orlando, Florida. In February 1985, he completed training at Windsor Locks, Connecticut where he earned the navy classification as Nuclear Power Plant Operator.
From April 1985 until January 1992 he served onboard USS James Madison (SSBN 627 Gold) and USS Stonewall Jackson (SSBN 634 Blue) completing thirteen strategic deterrent patrols during the Cold War. From January 1992 until August 1996, Master Chief served as an instructor at Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit, Charleston South Carolina where he qualified as Engineering Officer of the Watch and was selected for advancement to Chief Petty Officer.
From August 1996 until October 2000, he served as the Machinery Division Leading Chief Petty Officer onboard USS Albuquerque. During this time the ship completed a North Atlantic deployment and a Mediterranean Sea deployment in support of NATO Operations Allied Force and Noble Anvil against the Former Yugoslavian Republic. In April of 2000, he was selected for advancement to Senior Chief Petty Officer with a follow on tour as the Commander Submarine Squadron Four Engineering Assistant for Material. In March 2003, he was selected for advancement to Master Chief Petty Officer, the senior enlisted pay grade in the United States Navy. From August 2003 until June of 2006 he served as the Engineering Department Master Chief onboard USS Annapolis. During this period, the ship completed a Depot Modernization Period and a Central Command deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
Master Chief Clabaugh reported in July of 2006 as the Commander, Submarine Group Two, Engineering Department Master Chief where he currently serves under the helm of RDML Bruce Grooms. His duties include mentoring, oversight, and certification of ships in the new construction and depot level maintenance period.
Master Chief is entitled to wear the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
Master
Chief has been married to the former Mary Anne Mayland of Davenport, Iowa for 23
years. They have three children Amanda Detweiller, Ben, and Cari and reside in
Groton,
Connecticut.
