See the FDU website for directions:  http://www.fdu.edu

 Data from ASME:

Karen distributed data from ASME as a guide for planning programs.
The data indicated membership primary technical interests, membership categories, dates when members joined, and areas in which most members are located.

Scheduled Programs:

Visit our web page for details:
http://sections.asme.org/northjersey/

  • Picnic July 19 at Tomahawk Lake.
Specifics are posted on the web page
An announcement has been mailed to members who do not have E-mail addresses.
E-mail announcements were sent to members who do have E-mail addresses.
The entrance fee for Tomahawk Lake will be paid by the Section for members who send an RSVP to Karen.  Karen will fax a list to Tomahawk Lake of RSVP names that the Section will pay for, so they can be checked off at admission.

  • Engineering Weekend at West Point – featuring football game between Army vs. Tulane.  September 19-20.
    See web page for details.

  • Honors and Awards Dinner for 2004.  We have selected June 10th for this future event.

We were very pleased with the Honors and Awards Dinner, held on June 26, 2003.

The Hanover Manor did a great job for us.  Sid Goodman will send a letter of appreciation to the Hanover Manor, indicating that we look forward to planning future events there.
Beal Moore distributed photos he took at this dinner.

Future Programs strongly suggested

Karen will contact ASME headquarters to attempt engaging distinguished lecturers who are sponsored by the ASME.
ASME pays their fees and traveling expenses.

  • Lecture on How to Start Your Own Business.  We hope to schedule this between September and November.  Sid suggested that this should be a dinner meeting.  An ASME survey said that most members have expressed an interest in management.  This should appeal to that interest.

  • Fire in Space – Space Shuttle emergencies -  by a speaker who was on a mission.
We hope to schedule this for the next Engineering Week Dinner. We set the date for this dinner as February 19, 2004.  This topic should have broad appeal to all Societies and all engineers.  We intend to contact other Societies and Engineering Schools earlier this time.

  • Tour of Lucent laboratory.  Beal Moore said he would investigate arranging a tour.

  • Program that would be of high interest to engineering students as well as engineers in general.  Lisa Laplante said she will contact NJIT to make inquiries.

Other Possible Programs (mentioned at the last Section Meeting)

  • Sterling Mine – Lisa Laplante’s suggestion

  • Wine tasting event – Lisa Laplante’s suggestion

  • Possible special award to PSE&G some time in the fall (coordination with Norris Allman)

Sid Goodman prepared an article for our web page on the Shot Peening seminar presented by the Metal Improvement Company, Inc on June 13th.  See the web page at the "articles" section.

Planning future Section Meetings

Between August to December, we plan to schedule meetings at FDU.
The dates at FDU will be as follows:
(3rd Thursday of each month @ 7:30pm)

August 21

September 18

October 16

November 20

December 18

Between January to February we propose holding meetings at Kraft Headquarters in Parsipany.

Sid will ask Brian Boden if we can schedule meetings at Kraft Headquarters so that they are also generally the third Thursday of each month?

For February, we will shift to the second Thursday to accommodate our anticipated  Engineers Week Dinner (planned for  the third Thursday).
The time of each meeting would also be 7:30 pm.

The dates at Kraft would be as follows:

January 15

February 12

March 18

April 15

May 13

June 17

Holding the meetings in a general format for 6 months in succession provides a distinctive pattern, evenly distributing convenience to members who live in separate regions.
