Federal Government Fellowship Program
ASME has established a program whereby members may become advisers to
Congress and the White House. Contact ASME headquarters for information.
Patent and Invention Program
The Stevens Institute is interested in having a program at Stevens. The last spring
open date at the Institute is April 15, before the term is over. Karen Will check the
availability of the patent attorney for this date. If he is not available, we will schedule
this program in the fall. We would like to have the program in the late afternoon
for students, serve supper, and then have an evening session. Serving a supper at Stevens is no problem.
Tour of Kodalux in Fair Lawn, NJ
Arnold Pristernik contacted George Audisio (audisio@qualexphoto.com).
Arnold will attempt to arrange a tour for the fall, possibly in September. Kodalux needs
a 6-week advance notice. The tour would include photographic film printing, paper processing, paper cutting, and packaging.
Aviation Museum (Teterboro) program
Beal Moore contacted the Museum. The available dates are Saturday May 22nd
with a rain date of Sunday May 23rd. We plan to serve a picnic lunch outdoors
at 12:00pm, which is why we need a rain date. After lunch, the program will run
from 1 to 3 pm (approximately). He will get group rate information regarding the
donation required from us. He will also, obtain lunch arrangement information. Karen Russo is the contact person at the museum for arrangements.
Her phone number is 201-288-6344.
Engineering Week Dinner that was held on February 12, 2004
Gregory T. Linteris PhD., our keynote speaker, gave a fascinating lecture
“Fire in Space”, based on his experience in space missions. Karen is processing the
speaker’s travel expenses to him ($261.40). The cost of renting equipment to augment
his talk greatly exceeded his personal expenses. Karen will apply for ASME reimbursement to cover our total costs, since his talk is
sponsored by our Society.
ASME Reorganization-Change and Continuity Initiative
Bud Foster said he would prepare a draft statement that addresses the
concerns of our Section Officers. We have not yet received it.
ASME celebration of 125th Anniversary – February, 2005

each section Please contact Karen at ohlandk@asme.org if you are
interested in being either a volunteer coordinator or a volunteer.

Section Picnic for next summer
Tentatively scheduled for Saturday July 24th rain date TBD - These dates must be confirmed with Swartzwood Park. The park offers
swimming, boating, and fishing. It has a concession stand. Richard Dolinsky said he
would confirm the availability of this date and a rain date (possibly July 31) by next week.
Date for Honors and Awards Dinner June 17th
The dinner will be held at the Hanover Inn.
Karen confirmed the date with the Inn.
Hayworth Water Treatment Program?
Beal Moore investigated the possibility of arranging a tour of the treatment plant.
Tours are no longer allowed because of security concerns. However, the water
company is willing to provide a speaker who shows a video of the treatment process.
Such a program is only available on a Monday, Wednesday, or a Friday, sometime
between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The program can be any place but at the plant itself.
Dick Touma once suggested that retired engineers might be interested in morning or
afternoon programs. He wondered whether we should try special programs for this category
of members. At this Section meeting, we did not feel that a morning or afternoon program
on a weekday would be suitable for the Section, in general. Whether Dick decides to
plan a program for seniors is up to him.
Other Possible future programs
- Picatinny Arsenal – Bud Foster said he would ask people at the Arsenal if they were willing to present a program. No response yet.
- Management/Consulting/Starting a business – Dick Touma will coordinate a discussion. Brian Boden (a manager at Kraft) and Iggy D’Agati (established a successful business) agreed to serve as panelists. No response yet.
- Visit to Sterling Mine and wine tasting event. Lisa Laplante will look into planning this.
- Presentation by Glenn Corbett, revised construction specifications for high-rise buildings
This suggested program is being kept on the agenda as a possible future event.
