ASME Diversity and Outreach Program

Last November, ASME’s Board on Diversity and Outreach (BDO) gave more than $22,000 to universities and engineering schools, to encourage more minorities and women to become active in ASME and in the engineering community.  The amounts dispersed varied between $500 and $1500.  These allocations were not made by individual Sections.  Individual Sections such as the North Jersey Section have awarded funds to students who were actively involved in ASME Student Sections.

Intellectual Property Program – Held January 26th at Stevens Institute.

Topics covered were patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights. The program went well.  30 to 35 attendees were there.  The patent attorney said he is willing to provide a follow up meeting or give advice to engineers or students who are interested in employment in this field.  Research positions exist and are said to pay well. James Litvany organized this event. james@litvany.com (201)444-5592 H

Program on Starting a Small Business

Talk on New Engineering by Eugene F. Adiutori

Engineer Adiutori has written a book on this subject and has given several presentations. He requires guarantee of a reasonably good attendance.  Professor Mel Lewis said that FDU is looking for a lecturer.  Mel was given a description of the proposed program and may possibly arrange for a very good attendance at an upcoming FDU conference.

ASME Distinguished Lecturer- Ian M. Arbon

Karen e-mailed Mr. Arbon, asking if he would be available for a lecture.
His subject is renewable energy and sustainability.  Because he is traveling from England, he needs a tour of appearances, not just a presentation at one Section. Karen emailed an inquiry of interest to other Sections. She said that other Sections are interested.
