Engineer’s Week Dinner:
February 24,
2006
Hanover Manor, 16 Eagle Rock Avenue
East Hanover, NJ
Phone no. (973)992-7425
Art Vatsky,
energy consultant, will be the keynote speaker
The tentative title of his address is “Transportation Energy, The Real
World”.
There will be a discount for student members and a discount for full
table reservations. Tables seat 10 to 12 people.
Companies are
invited to honor engineers who have distinguished themselves.
A plaque for each honoree will be given to them at the dinner. Companies
are asked to submit a letter that will state the text on the plaque.
Plaque preparation has a lead time. The sooner a letter is submitted,
the less the cost. Last minute rush orders inflict a premium cost,
bringing the price of a plaque up to an estimated $300.
Karen Ohland
said she will send Richard Dolinsky the templates for the flyer.
We will invite
attendance by engineering societies, engineering schools, and all ASME
members. Lisa Laplante said she has contact lists.
Scholarships
to individual students will not be granted. Instead of that, we will
award grants to engineering schools upon approval of their proposals for
projects which augment mechanical engineering skills. We are waiting for
proposals from schools.
Brainstorming Meeting in March:
We will invite
all ASME members to a brainstorming session. The object is to involve
more members in directly actuating programs of general and technical
interest. Richard Dolinsky will set the date for this meeting.
Pharmaceutical Project Engineering Program:
Program by
Bruce Eckman, QC engineer - (908)232-8900 0ffice, (908)528-3286 cell
The program he offers is as follows;
Mechanical Engineering Projects in Pharmaceutical Construction
GMP basics you need to know
-Good manufacturing practices per 21CFR211
-Facility design concepts acceptable to the USFDA
-Mechanical systems subject to Commissioning qualification
-Validation activities during the four phases of a facility project
-Design qualification review.
It is hoped that this program will interest engineers who work in the
pharmaceutical industry or those who would like to enter that industry.
Sid Goodman
will contact Bruce to ask which dates in April he would be available for
this program. Members of the Section executive committee will inquire
whether we can present this program at FDU, Teaneck campus, FDU,
Madison/Florham Park campus, Morris County Community College, or other.
Our first choice is to hold this program in an area where most of our
members live. Hoffman La Roche tentatively considered sponsoring the
program in Nutley, NJ, but Sid reported they may have lost interest in
doing that, based on non-reply to queries of whether sponsorship is
approved by their management.
Honors
and Awards Dinner:
The executive
committee felt that May would be a good month for it.
We will solicit more members of the Honors and Awards committee.
Web Page
Course:
An instructor
is available. He advises that a proper course will require at least 8
sessions.
We will determine the logistics and the availability of locations for
the cost and a schedule.
Morris
Museum Tour:
But said he
would arrange a tour for April. No specific input from him yet.
Meadowlands Pumping Station Tour:
Lisa Laplante
will try to arrange a tour in April.
Paterson
Falls Generator Tour:
Lisa Laplante
will try to arrange a tour in April
Wine
Tasting/Beer Brewing Tours:

net-working events. Lisa will verify availability and scheduling.
She will notify members by E-mail on short notice. Previous Beer/Wine
tours were well attended.
Beer bottling and labeling is done on Thursday nights.
Beer tasting is on Friday nights.
Another
Program on Patents:
Lisa will ask
James Litvany if he can arrange a follow up program for the winder of
2006.
He arranged the previous program on patents with patent attorney R.
Straussman.
The event was well attended.
Program
on Starting a Business:
Lisa will talk
to Iggy D’Agati, Brian Boden, and Dick Touma about this.
Distinguished Lecturer Program:
ASME
headquarters previously funded this. Because this funding has been
discontinued, our Section can no longer afford to participate in this
program.
