ASME Section Meeting Minutes 2-9-06

Engineer’s Week Dinner:

Planning for the dinner was discussed. Dinner committee members are requested to arrive at 4:00 PM for preparations at the Manor.

Art Vatsky, energy consultant, will be the keynote speaker.
The of his address is “US Dependence on Imported Petroleum: Can You Handle the Truth?

Camfil Farr Inc. has designated Don Thornburg for an engineer of the year award.

Financial scholarships to individual students will not be granted. Certificates recognizing achievement will be given at the meeting. We will award grants to engineering schools upon approval of their proposals for projects, which augment mechanical engineering skills.
We are waiting for proposals from schools.

Blizzard contingency dates: February 27 or February 28. Richard will check availability of these dates with the Manor.

Brainstorming Meeting- possibly in March:

We will invite all ASME members to a brainstorming session. The object is to involve more members in directly actuating programs of general and technical interest. Richard Dolinsky is in the planning stage.

Pharmaceutical Project Engineering Program in April:

Program by Bruce Eckman, QC engineer - (908)232-8900 0ffice, (908)528-3286 cell
The program he offers is as follows;
Mechanical Engineering Projects in Pharmaceutical Construction
GMP basics you need to know
-Good manufacturing practices per 21CFR211
-Facility design concepts acceptable to the USFDA
-Mechanical systems subject to commissioning qualification
-Validation activities during the four phases of a facility project
-Design qualification review.
It is hoped that this program will interest engineers who work in the pharmaceutical industry or those who would like to enter that industry.

Bruce is available throughout April except for Thursdays and the third Monday.
Boris Khusid needs a bio, to propose holding the event at NJIT. A Pizza supper will be served. We will plan the supper for an attendance of up to 40 people.
Attendees will be asked for a nominal fee of $10.00 to cover our costs.
NJIT students will be free. As soon as Sid Goodman gets a bio from Bruce, he will email it to Boris along with an outline of the program. (Bruce sent a bio to Prof. Khisid. Boris is checking with the NJIT Administration for approval of holding the program there.)

Honors and Awards Dinner:

The executive committee felt that May would be a good month for it.
We will solicit more members of the Honors and Awards committee.

Web Page Course:

St. Peters College offers a 6-week course to us. Based on attendance by 20 students the price per student is estimated to be roughly $400. Each session will be 2 hours, using computers at the College that are loaded with web page design software.

Morris Museum Tour:

But said he would arrange a tour for April. No specific input from him yet.

Meadowlands Pumping Station Tour:

Lisa Laplante will try to arrange a tour in April.

Paterson Falls Generator Tour:

Lisa Laplante will try to arrange a tour in April:

Wine Tasting/Beer Brewing Tours:

These are good networking events. Lisa will verify availability and scheduling. She will notify members by E-mail on short notice. Previous Beer/Wine tours were well attended. Beer bottling and labeling is done on Thursday nights.
Beer tasting is on Friday nights.

Another Program on Patents:

Lisa will ask James Litvany if he can arrange a follow up program for the winder of 2006. He arranged the previous program on patents with patent attorney R. Straussman.
The event was well attended. (At the Engineering Week dinner, R. Straussman said he is very willing to serve again.)

Program on Starting a Business:

Lisa will talk to Iggy D’Agati, Brian Boden, and Dick Touma about this. No input from Iggy, Brian, and Dick yet.

ASME Section Leadership Training:

Training will be held on March 3, 4, and 5th. Karen Ohland sent a link for registration to qualified members. Richard Dolinsky, Lisa Laplante, and Ramesh Gulrajani will be joining Karen for this training.

Regional Student (robotic) Competition (RSC):

An RSC program is being planned for by FDU, Teaneck. April 1, 2006 at FDU, Teaneck in the gymnasium.

Rebuilding Together:

Lisa Laplante said a Rebuilding Together event is planned for April 29, 2006. Volunteers for this event are asked to contact her at laplantel@asme.org.
