Recent
Pharmaceutical Project Engineering Program April
24:
The Program by Bruce Eckman, QC engineer had approximately
40 attendees.
Essential requirements for project approval by government
agencies were thoroughly covered. ASME covered the cost of
refreshments.
Honors and Awards
Dinner:
The executive committee decided that due to the reduction of
funds from ASME headquarters, we cannot afford the $4,000 it
costs to hold an H&A Dinner this year.
We will wait to see what financial condition we are in next
year before planning a Dinner then. Ideas for fundraising
are welcome.
Web Page Course
(fundraiser)
St. Peters College (Englewood Cliffs, NJ) has offered a
6-week course to us. Based on attendance by 20 students the
price per student is estimated to be roughly $400.
This is much less than half the cost asked for by other
course providers. Each session will be 2 hours, using
computers at the College that are loaded with web page
design software.
A deposit for sign-ups will be required. The deposit will be
returned if enrollment is insufficient.
Richard Dolinsky will prepare the advertisement.
Fairleigh Dickinson
University (FDU) Industrial Advisory Committee Meeting
Sid Goodman attended the meeting at which various
educational topics were discussed.
Sid was impressed by the involvement of the ASME Student
Section in the robotic competition that was held at FDU on
April 1st. FDU is planning to make a video of their program.
Sid suggested that leaders of robotic teams be asked to make
reports at the next Engineering Dinner.
Grants to ASME
Student Sections:
At the next meeting we will ask Karen Ohland whether we can
afford to offer grants to student sections for programs such
as competitions. When known, the amounts offered should be
approved. If it’s a go, Boris Khusid will prepare a grant
application for student Sections. The application will ask
what the grant will be used for.
A final report will be required as well. Having Student
Sections make presentations at the annual Engineers Week
Dinner was proposed. This provides a learning experience and
accountability for the students from ASME Section funding.
The Executive Committee will proceed in this direction.
Brainstorming:
All ASME members are invited to submit ideas for fundraising
and enrichment programs.
All ideas will be presented to the Executive Committee for
executability. Members with viable ideas are asked to become
directly involved with supporting their program and others
if possible. Please contact Richard Dolinsky at
dolinskyr@asme.org.
Plant Tours?:
Ramesh said he will
contact PSE&G to see whether an interesting tour is
available.
Sid said he will ask Art Vatsky if he can arrange a tour
of a renewable energy facility.
Morris Museum Tour:
Bud said he would arrange a tour for this Spring. There
has been no definite input from him.
Richard said he would contact Bud.
Meadowlands Pumping
Station and Paterson Falls Generator Tour
Lisa Laplante will try to arrange a tour or tours.
Wine Making /Beer
Brewing Tours
These are good networking events. Previous Beer/Wine
events were well attended.
Beer bottling and labeling is done on Thursday nights.
Beer tasting is on Friday nights.
Members interested in these events may obtain
information from Lisa.
laplantel@asme.org.
Program on Patents:
At the Engineers week dinner, Richard Straussman, the
patent attorney who previously presented the last
program, said that he would be able to do another for
the winter of 2006.
James Litvany arranged the previous program on patents
with R. Straussman. Anyone interestedin attending an
updated presentation on patents, please contact ASME
Section chairman Richard Dolinsky at dolinskyr@asme.org.
anytime Now through September, so the program can be
arranged.
Program on Starting
a Business:
This program is shelved until we receive an input from
Iggy D’Agati, Brian Boden, and Dick Touma about this.
Rebuilding
Together/Habitat for Humanity – ongoing
throughout the year
Lisa asked our Webmaster to post a link for these events on
our website. Interested volunteers, should refer to the link
for information.
A June Wedding:
Lisa is getting married in June 10. Best wishes to the happy
couple.
Picnic:
Although the last picnic ground was superb, the turnout was
so poor that the Executive Committee decided to not hold one
this year, especially since providing food and refreshments,
as we did in the past, is a drain on our limited treasury.
