"The Oak Ridge Section
is part of Region IV, or the Blue Ridge Region of
ASME. It was organized as a subsection in 1959, the same year as the City
of Oak Ridge itself was formally incorporated, just 4 years after the Army
released the land to the resident workers. ASME-OR became a full section in
1969. It encompasses Anderson, Roane, Campbell, Scott, Morgan, Cumberland,
Fentress, Pickett, Overton, Clay, Jackson, and White Counties in the state
of Tennessee. A number of ASME-OR's members live in Knox County (seat of
our sister East Tennessee section) but work in Oak Ridge. ASME-OR has
approximately 110 registered members, most of whom work in the DoE complex
(Oak Ridge National Laboratory aka the X-10 plant, NASA's National Security
Complex aka the Y-12 plant, and the East Tennessee Technology Park formerly
known as the K-25 Gaseous Diffusion Plant), either as contractors or
directly for the government. "
