Student Funding
Return to Home page.
OVERVIEW:
Every year, the ASME Oregon section awards grants to support college student teams competing in engineering competitions. To receive a grant, each team must make a formal presentation to a panel of judges comprised of ASME Oregon section board members. Funding is limited, so teams must compete for these cash awards. It is the intention of the ASME Oregon section that the presentation process will afford students an opportunity to practice skills such as project planning and public speaking that will be of value to them in their engineering careers.
Grants are awarded each year in the winter and again in the spring.
- Winter: An initial grant to help projects still in their early stages. 2009 Winter budget is $2000 – 4 awards of $500 each.
- Spring: A second grant that rewards projects that have made steady progress according to their project budget and schedule. 2009 Spring budget is $1500 – 1st place $700, 2nd place $500, 3rd place $300.
Teams that receive grants are expected to present their finished project at the ASME Oregon section turnover meeting on the first Wednesday in June.
