Message from the Chair                                                                May 2012

The end of the program year is approaching fast.  We have the annual ASME picnic coming up soon on
May 19, and we are finishing up the details for the June meeting.  This year we are trying something different
for the picnic: lunch will be a catered barbecue meal.  Of course we all have lots of refreshments and some other
goodies to eat.  The student section will Provide a presentation on their Human Powered Vehicle entry, which
competed in the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge in April.  Looking forward to seeing you at the picnic!

This has been one of the busiest spring times for the section that I can recall!

We had the FES E-week banquet in February.  In March, we had the AIAA E-week banquet, followed by the tour of
Flight Safety International. In case you thought about going on the tour but decided not to, all attendees on the
Flight Safety tour were allowed to “fly” the Blackhawk helicopter simulator!  System modeling was the topic at our
most recent dinner meeting.  Ed Butzin, president of Wolverine Ventures Inc. showed the attendees how system
modeling is performed with NPSS, and how it can be applied to many different engineering disciplines.  Thanks Ed!

Apart from those section activities, Drew Walsh and I attended the LTC (Leadership Training Conference) in early
March and Drew attended the DSS (District F Seminars) in April.  Also, all section Executive Committee members
have attended several training sessions to see how we can move our section to the next level!  Keep an eye out for
the emails and make sure you participate!

See you at the next meeting!
