ASME Heat Transfer Chapter of Rochester Section Honors Graham CEO
The Heat Transfer Chapter of ASME Rochester Section presented the Life Fellow Award to Frederick D. Berkeley, board chairman of the Graham Corporation, Batavia. This is the highest honor given by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers to its members in recognition to their outstanding contribution to the engineering community and society. Berkeley has been chairman of the board and CEO of the Graham Manufacturing Corporation, a Batavia company manufacturing vacuum and heat transfer equipment, since 1962. During his 48 years with the company, he has been instrumental in developing a small upstate New York company into a multinational corporation. In doing this, his company provided employment and civic leadership for the town of Batavia. A strong proponent of engineering education, Duncan has acted as a sponsor to industry-related projects at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and title Rochester Institute of Technology. He has also served on the Executive Advisory Committee of Roberts Wesleyan College, and director of a number of organizations including the Business Council of New York State, the Industrial Management Council, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The award was presented by Professor Arthur E. Bergles, past president of ASME on February 10, 1998, at the Imaging Science Auditorium of the RIT campus. The award ceremony was a part of the Heat Exchanger Symposium organized by Professor Satish Kandlikar, chairman of the Heat Transfer Chapter of the ASME, and Roderick Athey of Graham Manufacturing. The event was sponsored jointly by the ASME, Graham Corporation, Batavia, and the Mechanical Engineering Department of Rochester Institute of Technology.
