Re Engineering at Xerox
The new age of Digital Document Technology is defining the Office of
the Future. Xerox is a leader in that technology, and intends to stay in
the lead. In doing so, we need to meet our customers' needs while conserving
resources and protecting the environment. Xerox's contribution to this
global challenge is it's "Design for the Environment" program.
This initiative is the cornerstone to enable products to be developed and
manufactured that are environmentally friendly.
Specifically, the recently announced Xerox Document Centre DC265 copier,
developed under the code name Lakes, was born out of the need for a product
that would fit the Office of the Future and be environmentally responsible.
A vision for Lakes was created by integrating anticipated future requirements
with customers' needs and with what Xerox thought was the "Right Thing
To Do". The lakes program modified the traditional Product Delivery
Process (PDP) to ensure that the "Design for the Environment"
(DFE) policy was deployed.
Dr. John Elter was the leader behind the Lakes program.
