DINNER MEETING

PREVENTING FAILURES IN STAINLESS STEELS

 

 Mr. Mark Bell, PE, will discuss the families of stainless steels and how proper material selection, welding, and an understanding of the environment are needed to avoid failures.  Time is available for failures to be brought in by the audience for a brief evaluation and discussion.  The presentation is planned for Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at the Solar Turbines training facility near Lindbergh Field on the corner of Harbor Drive and Hawthorn Street.

Social time is from 5:30 pm to 6:15 pm, dinner is from 6:15 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by the presentation and Q&A.

About the speaker:  Most recently as a senior engineer for Schiff Associates, Mr. Bell handled failure analysis, welding engineering, and corrosion engineering for a variety of clients such as geotechnical firms, architect and engineering firms, oil companies, public works departments, water districts, private property owners, and pump and rotating equipment manufacturers.  He was on the American Welding Society’s Board of Directors for 10 years and was awarded the Dalton E. Hamilton CWI District Award in 2007 by the American Welding Society.  Mr. Bell is a Professional Engineer.  He is a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in Metallurgical Engineering, after having attended Grossmont College and served in the Marines.
