APRIL TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT

Orgainzed by ASME Skokie Valley

DATE – 23 APRIL 2008

LOCATION – Dura-Bar

2100 West Lake Shore Drive

Woodstock, IL
(Google Map to Meeting)

The Dura-Bar Division of Wells Manufacturing Company is located in Woodstock,
Illinois. It is the only producer of continuous cast iron bar stock in North America and the largest in the world. Dura-Bar produces solid bars in rounds, rectangles and shapes in diameters up to 25” and rectangles up to 16.5 “x 25.0”.

Ductile iron bar is an excellent alternative to carbon steel bar and can significantly lower the cost of machined parts that are currently made from steel grades such as 1018, 12L14, 1212, 1117, 1045 and 1144. Ductile iron does not have to be carburized and significant heat treat cost savings will result when it is used as a replacement for heat-treated low carbon steels.

Spend an evening in Woodstock and learn about the unique process of continuous casting of gray and ductile iron. The plant tour will give you a good close up view of the entire operation including the melt shop, ladle treatments of molten iron, and bars exiting the casting machine at nearly 2000°F!

Food and drinks will be provided and you can relax in a comfortable meeting room during a brief presentation, with plant tour to follow.

Bob O’Rourke will be the presenter and tour guide. He is the Product Engineering Manager with Dura-Bar, and has more than 24 years experience dealing with the continuous casting process and ductile iron applications.

Please Note: There will be molten iron being driven by fork trucks, please understand that safety is
extremely critical. Also no open toed shoes, high heels or running shoes allowed. Hiking boots, leather shoes are preferred
