- Tuesday, September 23, 2008
- Tom Mull, 636-938-6173
As gasoline prices rise and the cost of other petroleum products rise, there has been increased interest in alternative fuels. In the past, ASME-St. Louis has looked at alternative fuels including ethanol and compressed natural gas. One of the more promising alternatives is biodiesel.
Our meeting topic for September is biodiesel fuel. The speaker for the meeting will be Mr. Don Scott who is a Regulatory Engineer with the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) based in Jefferson City, Missouri. NBB is a national trade association which represents the biodiesel industry as the coordinating body for research and development in the United States. Among the topics which will be discussed include:
- What is biodiesel and what is it made from?
- What standards must biodiesel comply with?
- What types of vehicles are powered by engines which run on biodiesel?
- What emissions does biodiesel produce?
- What is the availability of biodiesel?
