Mechanical Engineer III

A full service engineering firm specializing in design and construction management of heavy industrial plants has an opening for a Mechanical Engineer III.

Responsible for training and overseeing the work of Engineers working on the team to prepare drawings of plant layout; responsible for ensuring workability of equipment, location and configuration and for the quality of drawings and specifications.

May be required to visit job sites to verify workability of plant layout and equipment specifications.

Equipment includes compressors, blowers, pumps, hoists, conveyors, feeders, equipment drives, special drive supports, dust collectors and associated fans, and other required equipment.

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering; completion of the EIT exam; or PE preferred. Training in AutoCAD.

7-10 years of industrial design experience.

Assistant Manager, Plant Design Department

St. Louis, MO

Assistant Manager position to assist the Plant Design Manager available in St. Louis with a full service engineering firm specializing in heavy industrial projects.

Functions include but are not limited to proposal estimates, project budgeting/planning, scheduling manpower resources, resolving technical issues, updating departmental standards/procedures, monitoring project progress within the department, quality, training junior staff members.

The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of the mechanical and process engineering fields, and must have the ability to "see the big picture" as well as understand all the details that make up the drawings and plans necessary to complete each project to meet client needs and expectations.

Knowledge of company drawing standards and the ability to contribute to updates in those standards to keep the results attained by the company at the highest possible level is essential to fulfill the duties of this position. Monitoring the status and progress on each project requires excellent engineering expertise. Building an effective team and gaining cooperation from the staff requires good communication and people management skills.

Proficient use of computers, calculators and other engineering tools is required to check and perform calculations and review computer generated drawings. Wordprocessing, spreadsheet and database skills are also essential. The Assistant Plant Design Department Manager is sometimes required to visit job sites to investigate present plant and equipment conditions and requirements. Field inspections require the capability of climbing ladders and stairs, walking on uneven terrain, kneeling, bending and stooping to examine progress and status of the work at the project.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, PE, Masters degree helpful.
  • Good understanding of overall business principles, finance, economics, organizational structure and management.
  • 10 years professional experience with leadership/supervisory responsibility in a heave industrial engineering environment. At least 3-5 years of direct cement and/or lime background.
  • Excellent people management and motivational skills; good understanding of problem solving approaches and techniques with a leadership style that encourages commitment to company principles.
  • Excellent communication and teambuilding skills with the ability to establish rapport and work effectively with people in a variety of situations.
  • Strong organization skills to effectively manage time and resources in the most efficient manner.

Power Delivery Specialist

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or 10 + years experience in the testing, repair maintenance and upgrade of power delivery equipment such as circuit breakers, switchgear, transformers, capacitors, surge arrestors, reactors, and controls.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead power delivery project & work planning, resource planning and scheduling, schedule management, and daily communications directly for the St. Louis Service Center and to support the network.
  • Provide technical and inquiry-to-order support, including developing and generating customer solutions and change orders, for power delivery product segments.
  • Work productively in a team environment and provide direct leadership of a technician workforce in the inspection, service, repair and upgrade of power delivery equipment.
  • Coordinate implementation of Environmental, Health and Safety programs and processes with the technician power delivery workforce and customers.
  • Develop, implement and implement power delivery plans, goals and objectives consistent with growth, diversification, competitiveness, productivity, cycle time, service performance, and quality and lean initiatives.
  • Support recruitment of technicians to support growth and diversification of power delivery product segments.
  • Interface directly and effectively with customers, all levels of GE Energy, other GE organizations and Fulfillment Center personnel including hourly workforce, other Specialists, Manager of Shop Operations, Service Center Manager, and support functions.

Desired:

  • Direct experience in inspection and repair services of power delivery equipment of other manufacturer's equipment.
  • Experience with advanced relays, drives, iso-phase, controls and/or automation systems.
  • Green Belt certified (GE employees only), Quality and/or Lean production experience.
  • Nuclear 1E experience.
  • Minimum three years leadership experience.
  • Strong background in interpretation of engineering drawings/specifications, electrical and manufacturing process planning/evaluation.
  • Demonstrated project management experience for simultaneous projects for multiple customers.
  • Experience in the direction of craft labor.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communications and leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% to support customer and growth requirements.
  • Overtime, weekend and holiday work may be required.
  • Ability to thrive in a diverse cross-functional team environment.
  • Computer experience including, but not limited to, basic operating systems (such as Microsoft) and basic applications including fluency in email and web applications.
  • Access to jobsite facilities/sites may include, but not be limited to, customer required drug screening, background and security checks.
  • Other responsibilities as required.
