Worcester Section COP: The Worcester section Communities of Practice member forum is now active. Joint ASME-IEEE Meeting

The Design process for High Technology Products:
High Technology products make for exciting engineering. This discussion will address the Pratt&Whitney design process that enables the addition of new advanced technologies in to the product line of gas turbine engines. Details of the steps in the process and the checks and balances that allow it to work will be examined.

Polar Beverages, New England’s largest independent soft drink bottler, is a fourth-generation, family owned business that traces its roots back to 1882.
It started with the J.G. Bieberbach Company, importers of seltzer water and bottlers of ginger ale and mineral water in Worcester.

Established in 1857, Hyde Tools is into its second century of service to American industry and the home handyman. If it's made of wood, paper, plastic, leather or rubber, chances are that Hyde Blade is involved in making it.

Plant Tour: Riverdale Mills,
130 Riverdale Street., Northbridge, MA

Riverdale Mills was founded in 1980 and manufactures weather and corrosion resistant wire mesh. Sixty percent of their production is for marine products, including lobster traps. Riverdale occupies approximately 300,000 sq.ft. in an early 1900's restored mill complex. They employ greater than 100. There is a dam with a restored (in-stream) water turbine which produces power for the automatic welders.

  The company began as the Sprague Print Works in Cranston, RI in 1824. William Sprague pioneered the printing of cotton cloth an d      built his company into a textile empire. In the 1960’s the company expanded its scope to include merchandising also. Cranston Print Works, currently employee-owned through an ESOP, is organized into three operating groups: Cranston, Bercen Inc., and Cranston Trucking Company. Cranston Division’s manufacturing, distribution, supply chain and worldwide customer service operations are located in Webster.

Tuesday November 15th  tour of Nypro Injection Molding. Nypro has been a leader in injection molding technology since its foundation in 1955. Nypro has over 1400 molding machines in eighteen countries, more than any other global molder. Nypro was founded around one injection molding machine in 1955. The original company name was Nylon Products Inc. and the company's original mission was to be the first molding company specifically dedicated to molding DuPont's then new miracle material, nylon.

We will be touring Alden Laboratory in Holden. Alden’s specialties are in Air & Gas Flow Modeling, Environmental Studies, Flow Measurement and Mathematical Modeling. Alden’s Air & Gas Flow Modeling Group is a recognized leader in the physical and computational flow modeling of industrial, utility, and other process gas flow systems. Alden’s Environmental Group is widely recognized as being highly effective in resolving environmental issues associated with FERC and NPDES project licensing.
